How to Help Out the Scoreboard Guy

Great news yesterday that Guy Newcomb was awake, off the ventilator, and improving, but he’s still in the neuro trauma ICU unit at Cox South & still needs your prayers.  And while Guy and his family have family, friends, and a church that have been giving them great support, this long of a hospital stay generates huge bills even with insurance.  Add to that recovery time, lost wages, etc. and one incident in the current economy can devastate a family’s pocketbook for years and years to come.  And while neither Guy nor Vicki would ask for it, I know the need for assistance is there.  So here are two ways you can help out and be a blessing to the Newcomb family.

  1. For those of you who would just like to donate money to help out, an account has been set up at the Bank of BolivarSend your donation to them at the main branch address, 495 S. Springfield Ave, Bolivar, MO 65613-2147.  The account is in his wife’s name so you can make it out to Vicki Newcomb, or just include a note that it is for the account to benefit Guy Newcomb and I was assured by the nice lady who took my call that they would get it directed correctly for you.
  2. Guy is not only a colleague that I’ve worked with extensively over the last two years, he’s a friend.  So we wanted to do something for he and his whole family.  After talking with Vicki Monday and getting her permission, I’m organizing an online auction with all proceeds to go to the Newcomb family.  I will be contacting a number of people for donations during the month of August.  I’m hoping to get memorabilia from area high schools, tickets to different sporting events, and other delightful things for people to bid on.  My plan at this point is to open bidding Sept. 1st, and close bidding at midnight on the 16th.  And even though this is a high school sports website, we’ll accept anything that will help raise money (with the exception of any alcoholic beverages or other items of an adult nature).  So if you would like to donate an item to the auction, contact me by email at joboo@ozarkssports.net to arrange a pickup for your donation, or mail your donation to OzarksSports.Net, 45 Benton Lane, Cassville, MO 65625.  We’ll open up a Scoreboard Guy Auction page and begin posting pictures and descriptions of items as soon as we can to whet you appetite.

Thanks again to everyone for caring and praying.  And thanks in advance for all you generosity.
